(Greg, Kathy, Trent & Amber)
Q: How long have you guys been doing CrossFit?
A: Trent has been doing crossfit over 3 1/2 years now. Amber and I have been doing crossfit almost 2 years. Greg has been doing crossfit 6 months or so.
Q: How did you guys get involved in CrossFit?
A: Trent has been an inline speed skater for over 10 years now. He wanted to place at nationals and the only way to do that was to get bigger, stronger, and faster. I saw what crossfit was doing for his cousins/my niece's and decided to have them ask their coach for a recommendation for the Austin area. They told us that Karhu was the best! We called and set up a meeting to find out what would be the best thing for Trent to reach his goal and to place at nationals. He started crossfit right away and the following summer he placed at Nationals in Lincoln, Nebraska! Trent kept up with the workouts even after nationals and still loves going to crossfit to this day.
After seeing Trent get stronger and leaner, I decided to join crossfit myself almost two years ago. When I decided to join, Amber (my 11 year old) decided that she wanted to join crossfit as well. It was really slow in the beginning, but now it is great and I look forward to getting to the gym! Amber and I challenge each other a lot and I enjoy my time with my family working out together. Greg, my husband, decided to join as well about 6 months ago so he could get in better shape and loose a few pounds along the way. It is still a little slow for him, but he is getting the hang of it and getting stronger by the weeks. One thing we have learned is that you will not be able to just come in and be at the level that everyone else is. You have to go at your pace and not worry about everyone else. Do what is best for you and your body. If you have to scale the workout then do so.....at least you are there and trying!
Q: What are your favorite movements?
A: Trent likes heavy squatting & deadlifting. Kathy likes rowing, back squats and deadlifts. Amber likes back squats. Greg likes rowing.
