Knowing that a gym is only as strong as the community that supports it, we are committed to providing world-class coaching, programming and customer service. Congrats to Juliegh and Coach Orion! This was her first powerlifting meet and she took first place in her weight class and age group. Way to represent CrossFit Jääkarhu. #Repost @bookoutj ・・・ Can’t say enough about my powerlifting and @karhustrength coach @orionhones 🙏 I wasn’t a powerlifter and he wasn’t a powerlifting coach, but we are a winning team now! Since we started working together a few months ago my powerlifting total went from 650# to 730#! Oh and at the same time my body weight went down from 145# to 127#. Athlete of the Month: Brian Breen aka @red.heavy _____________________________________________________ Q: How long have you been doing CrossFit? A: I’ve been doing CrossFit for almost 7 years Q: What are your favorite movements? What is your favorite workout? A: My favorite movement would have to be any of the push movements (strict press, push press, jerks) and my favorite workout is Cindy. It’s lower skill level, but you got to shut your brain off and just go to do well in that workout. Q: How did you get started in CrossFit? A: I got into CF after I stopped playing rugby. I always loved training and I still had the drive to compete, and CF gave me an outlet for that. It was a very natural progression. #Repost @orionhones ・・・ High Bar Backsquat ✊ ••• SO MANY CUES!!! 💯 ••• Though all of the points of performance in the video above are important, I find that the most glaring improvement that can be made for most athletes is their setup, particularly when it comes to starting and staying in a braced position.🧠💪 ••• Pay close attention and you’ll see that I unrack the bar into a position that is immediately braced, with the spine neutral and hips square. Junior (@captainnchriss1 ) started at Jääkarhu when he was 15 years old. This upcoming February will be his 4 year anniversary with us. We have seen him develop as an athlete as well as a person. Junior recently made some major life changes and we want to brag on him! • Q: What was it that made you want to make a change? A: One day I woke up and looked in the mirror and just wasn’t happy with what I saw. Being in college, I was partying way too much and eating out almost everyday. I didn’t want to be that kid that “let himself go” in college so I knew I had to start training again and make some huge changes to my lifestyle. • Q: What has been your motivation to stay on track? A: My roommate and I meal prep together so that helps me a lot. My dad (@crzzychris )also sends me motivational posts and words of wisdom everyday and checks in on me and that’s enough to keep my mind right. • Q: What has your nutrition and training been like? A: I have just been eating real food. A lot of beef, chicken, eggs, and fish. I also recently added more carbs like rice and potatoes to my meals and that has given me a huge energy boost through my workouts. I currently train at Jaakarhu with the 12pm crew 5 times a week and I have cheer practice 3-4 times a week. We’ll miss you Alex! Thank you for being part of our Karhu Perhe 🐻 and for being such a great example to those around you 💪 - #Repost @_alexengen ・・・ With today being the day I move to the burbs, I had to say goodbye to my favorite community of fitness I’ve ever been a part of. Over the past year or so, I have started almost every weekday morning working out at 6:30am. It became my passion and the fire that drove me for the rest of my day at work and with my wife. I am forever grateful to the coaches and athletes that helped kick my butt every day. 1st picture is most of my class at 6:30am. Some new, some old (@bookoute 👵🏻), but everyday I looked forward to seeing these people to start my day. 2nd picture are the 5:30am guys that set the tone for my workout. Coming in early was a blessing and a curse. A blessing to see their intensity and determine my own game plan, but a curse to see some of the grueling work they were putting in knowing that my fate was inevitable. @doe_cho was not smiling cause he was holding back tears... This post is for these people and for all those that have been supporting my journey with @karhustrength. I am so grateful for the opportunity and am so excited for my next chapter with Rachel and our family. Until next time...

#Repost @orionhones ・・・ SHOULDER WARMUP🔥🔥🔥 ———————————————————————— My next series of videos will be all upper body pushing and so let’s WARM IT UP!!! ———————————————————————— I particularly I like this progression from the plank position because it allows the athlete to find range through dynamic motion. Having the midline and opposite shoulder assist in stabilizing also expands the athletes ability to balance and transfer force! 🏄🏼‍♂️ ———————————————————————— One thing to keep in mind is that having a basic ability to support one’s body Is a prerequisite for this. Particularly for those athletes or clients That are either heavier or just have low bodyweight strength, this may not be the best option. Athletes of the Month: THE WEEMS (Greg, Kathy, Trent & Amber) •••• Q: How long have you guys been doing CrossFit? A: Trent has been doing crossfit over 3 1/2 years now. Amber and I have been doing crossfit almost 2 years. Greg has been doing crossfit 6 months or so. • Q: How did you guys get involved in CrossFit? A: Trent has been an inline speed skater for over 10 years now. He wanted to place at nationals and the only way to do that was to get bigger, stronger, and faster. I saw what crossfit was doing for his cousins/my niece's and decided to have them ask their coach for a recommendation for the Austin area. They told us that Karhu was the best! We called and set up a meeting to find out what would be the best thing for Trent to reach his goal and to place at nationals. He started crossfit right away and the following summer he placed at Nationals in Lincoln, Nebraska! Trent kept up with the workouts even after nationals and still loves going to crossfit to this day. After seeing Trent get stronger and leaner, I decided to join crossfit myself almost two years ago. When I decided to join, Amber (my 11 year old) decided that she wanted to join crossfit as well. It was really slow in the beginning, but now it is great and I look forward to getting to the gym! Amber and I challenge each other a lot and I enjoy my time with my family working out together. Greg, my husband, decided to join as well about 6 months ago so he could get in better shape and loose a few pounds along the way. It is still a little slow for him, but he is getting the hang of it and getting stronger by the weeks. One thing we have learned is that you will not be able to just come in and be at the level that everyone else is. You have to go at your pace and not worry about everyone else. Do what is best for you and your body. If you have to scale the workout then do so.....at least you are there and trying! • Q: What are your favorite movements? A: Trent likes heavy squatting & deadlifting. Kathy likes rowing, back squats and deadlifts. Amber likes back squats. Athlete of the Month: Bobby Nussbaumer aka @bobbynuss •••• Bobby: Q: How long have you been doing CrossFit? A: It’s been 3-1/2 amazing years. I started crossfit in May of 2015 and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. Q: How were you introduced to CrossFit? A: A friend invited me to his box for a workout and I had no idea what I was getting into. We did some lifting first and then started the AMRAP. 12 minutes of rowing, TTBs, KB swings and pushups. It didn’t seem too bad on paper but after about 6 minutes I was laid out on the floor gasping for air. I couldn’t believe how out of shape I felt. It took me a while to give it another shot but I’m glad I did. Q: What is your favorite movement/workout? A: Snatch was my weakest lift for a long time but over the past year it’s become my favorite lift. Workouts are tough to choose... I’m gonna say my favorite would probably be Holleyman.
